You play an important role in helping to create a future food system that can provide the food we need to keep our body, mind and soul healthy while not sacrificing our land, water and energy ecosystems.   While it can be hard to change our behaviors and habits, the change you create will help heal our planet and ensure that the environment is healthy for future generations, something we can all be proud of.  

 

Food is deeply intertwined in our lives.  It represents nourishment, emotion, memories, traditions and culture.  How we grow, produce, distribute and consume food has a tremendous impact on nature, either enriching or depleting our natural resources.  Our access to fresh healthy foods contributes to our social wellbeing and economic stability.   

The food choices we make everyday are connected all the way back to the field and farms from where they were grown or raised.  Many individuals and organizations like farmers, scientists and chefs are working hard to make sure food is produced, harvested, manufactured and shipped safely to us with peak nutrition and quality.  But we still have many gaps in our food system, using methods that take away the nutrients in the soil, produce more than we need or have the ability to store and distribute properly.

  • Take your own shopping bags to the grocery store.

  • Keep a couple in the car just in case.

  • Take a lunch box or reusable bag, instead of a paper or plastic bag.

  • Avoid pre-packaged food and products.

  • Buy rechargeable batteries.

  • Buy products in refillable or recyclable containers.

  • Photocopy and print on both sides of the paper.

6. Water conservation

  • take shorter showers.

  • Turn off the water while shaving.

  • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth.

7. Pollution prevention

  • Using cold water instead of hot when washing clothes can reduce the energy used per load by up to 90%.

  • Do Not Mix Chemicals.

  • Read and Follow Label Directions.
